What is mold?
"Mold" is a name used to refer to a type of fungus that grows along a root system called hyphae.
The mold that grows in your home can be from many strains. However, the most common are Aspergillus and Stachybotrys. The first is just considered a mold, the later is known as "Black Mold" and is often making headlines in the news.
Mold requires moisture. The sources of moisture could be from a leaking washing machine, broken pipe, or even bad ventilation in the kitchen or bathroom. Wherever there is excess moisture you can be sure to find mold.
Why is mold in my home in the first place?
A single mold colony can release thousands of spores into the air. Mold grows primarily outside on decaying plants and fallen leaves. The spores are tracked into the home but go undetected because of their small size. It's not until moisture is introduced in the home that the mold spore begins to grow and become visible.
